Wired Desk CM Solution

This is a demo site from Wired Content Ltd to show what our Content Management System called Wired Desk can do. Come and add a web page to see how it all works. You may use our demo username "marilyn" and password "monroe". Please take a minute to read the principles Wired Desk works around below. Marilyn has "Author" only privilege and this website is setup for simple workflow.
Wired Desk Principles
A web site is divided into areas which we term "Groups". This then allows access control to the different areas. For this website there are 4 groups as follows:
- Main
- Contains the website home page and all general pages concerned for the web site.
- Products
- This is to demonstrate how one uses Wired Desk for promoting ones products.
- Human Resources
- This is a typical area in an intranet/extranet website for organisations to promote their policies and staff activities. It also delves into jobs, holidays and properties.
- Information Industries
- This demonstrates information publishing on the web for the industries that do have information.
There are two types of user:
- Author
- The person who create the content. With this user Wired Desk encourages testing at every stage to make sure the web page looks right.
- Approver
- This is like the Editors role in a publishing organisation. This person checks the authors work and then, if OK, approves that page.
There are 3 types of page that match most needs in a website. These are:
- News Article
- This page has a precis and a full story. It has a publish date and expiry date to automatically add or remove new or old news from the dynamically generated news list on the wbesite.
- Announcement/Event
- This page handles both situations infered by its name. If you want to make an "Announcement" about soomething in one paragraph of text then you simply fill in the headline and precis and set the publish and expiry dates accordingly. If it relates to an event such as an exhibition, then you fill out the event details and give the full story concerning it.
- Static Page
- This is a page that would stay on a website for a long time. Thus there is not concept of publish or expiry date for this page type. With this page you can get it listed on the website where the templates have list titles to place it under. You can also remove it from the website.
Wired Desk encourages users to conform to your organisations desired look and feel. When a website is created for use by Wired Desk the templates and style sheets are sorted to give the look for each bit of the website. Individual paragraph and listing styles are created that the company would allow the authors to have available to them.
But there is always a "get out" clause, the Wired Desk editor allows HTML to be placed inside it's text! Also you can upload HTML files containg a "Table" that can be used for advertising Ads or presenting literal tables of imformation which can be inserted into a page or listed in a sequence controlled by the templae concerned.
Library facilities are provided to perform an asset management function as well as for uploading items to be available for use in the website. There are 5 libraries as follows:
- Picture Library
- Used to store picture files such as JPEGs, GIFs, etc. When one examines the picture details one can see what pages a picture is used in.
- Table Library
- This facility allows HTML files to be placed in a library. The files must contain a table which if used in a page or by itself, the table part will be served. This is used for Ads or literal tables of data.
- Document Library
- This is used to store Word Documents, spreadsheets, PDF files, etc. These can then be listed on a website for viewing.
- Audio Library
- This allows audio files like WAV, MIDI, MPEG, etc to be made available for listing on web page for listing to or downloading.
- Video Library
- This stores video files like MPEG, AVI, Quicktime, etc.. These then can be listed on a website for viewing/downloading.
Wired Desk enables you to manage your web pages as effectively as possible. It has "Your Work" feature, so you can carry on where you left off. The Approver can see what activity (pages created/updated) is going on, on the website. Then there is the "View WIP Website" feature that allows you to tour the website and then be able to edit a page that you are looking at ,or create a page in the same location as the current page.
Everywhere in Wired Desk, there is encouragement to test your web pages. Thus making for better content, displayed as the organisation would like it.
